Janet & Paul

I've known Janet for a long time. And when you work with someone, you always feel like you've known them longer than you have because you see them every day. They say dog years are much longer than the average 365, so I'm going to go ahead and say that work years are probably even more lengthy.

The point is that through all the work years, you get to know who a person really is. In shooting these photos, I really wanted to capture how genuine my friend is, and I think it came through pretty well. Janet and Paul, it was so fun to photograph you and see how well your respective senses of humor mesh. I knew Janet was funny from reading her blog this whole time, but it was fun to get to know Paul a little better too!

More shoots to come later. Happy blogging.

Stay tuned, bloggers.

Welcome to the Jungle

...that I get to walk through every day on my way to work. Okay this first picture won't look like a jungle at all, it's just thrown in there for fun. Every once in a while when I mention the massive construction going on near where I work I get a blank look in response. This is when I realize it's been a long time since some of my friends have been downtown. These photos are for you, my non-Salt Lake visiting friends, to show you the chaos I'm talking about!

They just put in the sky bridge last weekend. Side note: my dear co-worker and I walked under this bridge for two days before she realized it was up! We had a really good laugh about it. So this is for my friends that do visit SLC every day as well! :)

Happy blogging.

Breaking My Back Just to Know Your Name

Name that lyric in the title above. No really, do it. Leave a comment. I just might have a little prize for someone who actually does! I'm curious to see how many people actually listen to the lyrics of the songs they hear. Of course, you could always cheat and google it, but that doesn't bother me. I still want to see who knows it, so if you do, write the next line of the song in the comment box. Even if I don't know you, you're welcome to comment.

I find lyrics curiously intriguing. There is just something sensational about that whole you-had-a-boyfriend-that-looked-like-a-girlfriend-that-I-had-in-February-of-last-year turn of phrase that really just catches my attention, if ya know what I mean. And then I inevitably begin wondering what was meant by the words chosen, or if it was just a convenient string of words to sing. Perils of being an English major, I suppose: I'm always looking for the less obvious meaning.

All that aside, I am now designating Monday as Name that Lyric Monday. Because everyone needs a little extra pick-me-up on a Monday, even if you don't hate the day...I've never found them particularly awful, but I know a lot of people do, so here's something to ease into the week with.

And because a post is ALWAYS better with a picture, I'll leave you with a couple sweet mommy-daughter shots. I hope age greets me as wonderfully as it did my grandma.

Doesn't my cousin look like she could be my sister?

Happy Monday bloggers.

Meeting of Like Minds

It's not about fashion, but I have a blog, I told my friend, Elaine, regarding the invitation on her blog for a blogger's meet-up, Can I come? I was relieved that I was not the only non-fashion blogger there. Not that the girls weren't fashionable--anything but--it just made for interesting conversation with an eclectic group of people.
I'm always interested to hear the reasons why people start blogs: because they were bored, because they had a skill they could share with the world wide community, because they wanted to document what was going on in their lives. For me, blogging started as a journal, turned into a current events commentary, evolved into a place I could keep in touch with people far away from me, and ended up as a venue to share what photos I had taken recently, mostly for my family as I practice shooting their kids. Hmm. With my camera.
This blog never really found its groove and that is why I wanted to announce that a new blog is coming soon. A new blog that will hopefully have a defined purpose and designated direction. Check back soon for the link. In the meantime, enjoy these pictures from last night's killer meet-up. And thanks to Elaine and Meg for the OPI prize. I never win anything!

Disclaimer: please forgive the quality of these photos. :)
Aren't they all so stylish? Sheesh.

Such a cute smile on this little guy. Pictures don't do justice.

Meg of Fresh Brownies in b & w to hide the horrendous backlighting that made us jaundiced! It was so fun to find so much in common. I'll be coming to visit you soon, as promised!

Cutest Elaine, whom I adore. Thanks for letting me come to your cool party.

I now have a jealousy of a certain someone moving to Hawaii, an interest in learning more about commercial fishing, and a desire to make friends with the sewing machine again...without stabbing myself with a seam-ripper this time.

It was fun chatting with you guys.

Keep blogging, world. We all need something to do when we get bored at work, right? cough. Not that anyone actually does that, of course...

Isn't She Lovely

Yep. She is.

And I loved the light today. Beautiful.

I might marry my new camera.

Happy Sunday.
